A lesson that I have learned is that if you don't get up and go, someone else will.
Recently I realized, through trial and tribulation of course, that while time doesn't wait for anyone neither will a good idea. You may be thinking, "Oh, she's crazy. No one can think of what I'm thinking of doing." You may be right. Great ideas are rarely duplicated, but they can be copied. Whatever idea you have, including that remote beeper, go for it. And don't just go for it once. When you get tired, bored, and sick of your own idea: Keep going. When its 4 am and you still haven't made progress: Keep going. The first step is having the idea. But the most important step, and the most valuable, is the second step. IT'S THE GUMPTION TO GO. Haven't heard that word in a while huh? Gumption, my friends, is the sole reason why Apple, Microsoft, and the Snuggie exist. Someone got enough shrewd or spirited initiative and resourcefulness to not only have an idea but to keep going. 6 words make up the definition for gumption via Google. But those few words probably sum up trillions of dollars made through the years. In an effort to get my own mind in work mode, I have come up with a three step mantra method. It's like a workout for your brain. When you need to GET 'ER DONE, think of these three things:
If you are a person like me, whose only competitive ability revolves around how fast you can eat Chipotle, the word gumption may be easier said than done. But believe me; its better to step outside your usual passive comfort zone than to let your great idea get ran over by a less innovative version of itself. If you're unlike me and will compete with any random stranger, Great! Comment with some tips for us leisurely folks.
