Many people believe that it is unnecessary to make the choice of righteousness. They justify living the way they want by saying, "It doesn't take all that to reach God. But as a Bible believer, I don't believe that to be true. God requires righteousness, because he is righteous. If we are to enter fellowship with a righteous God, we must do so by taking on the characteristics of that God. 2 Corinthians reminds us that God cannot fellowship with unrighteousness. The Word says in 2 Cor 6:14, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?" Have you ever been in a room full of light and full of darkness. You haven't, because either the darkness took over the light or the light took over the darkness. My mom (Mama Daisy) always puts it like this, someone has to win. If God is light, then we as dark creatures have to be transformed by his power, daily. Over the next few posts I will explore righteousness. Why it is important, how to attain and maintain a righteous life, and the benefits that righteousness guarantees. Righteousness is not an easy way of life, but it is a requirement of Christianity. I have chosen to live my life consciously seeking after Christ. I would never claim to know anything unique. What I say is the knowledge I have received from reading the Bible and listening to my pastor. I am not a minister. I implore you to check the Bible for yourself. My hopes for seeking what God's Word says about righteousness is that my own journey of righteousness will be encouraged. I also hope that others will consider a life of righteousness for themselves. A lesson that I have learned is that if you don't get up and go, someone else will.
Recently I realized, through trial and tribulation of course, that while time doesn't wait for anyone neither will a good idea. You may be thinking, "Oh, she's crazy. No one can think of what I'm thinking of doing." You may be right. Great ideas are rarely duplicated, but they can be copied. Whatever idea you have, including that remote beeper, go for it. And don't just go for it once. When you get tired, bored, and sick of your own idea: Keep going. When its 4 am and you still haven't made progress: Keep going. The first step is having the idea. But the most important step, and the most valuable, is the second step. IT'S THE GUMPTION TO GO. Haven't heard that word in a while huh? Gumption, my friends, is the sole reason why Apple, Microsoft, and the Snuggie exist. Someone got enough shrewd or spirited initiative and resourcefulness to not only have an idea but to keep going. 6 words make up the definition for gumption via Google. But those few words probably sum up trillions of dollars made through the years. In an effort to get my own mind in work mode, I have come up with a three step mantra method. It's like a workout for your brain. When you need to GET 'ER DONE, think of these three things:
If you are a person like me, whose only competitive ability revolves around how fast you can eat Chipotle, the word gumption may be easier said than done. But believe me; its better to step outside your usual passive comfort zone than to let your great idea get ran over by a less innovative version of itself. If you're unlike me and will compete with any random stranger, Great! Comment with some tips for us leisurely folks. |
